Yogi’s to bring unusual combo of sushi + sports to Dallas’ Casa Linda

A mall in the Far East of Dallas is about to start a new concept with sushi and a little sport.

Called Yogi’s sushi barIt opens at Casa Linda Plaza on the southeast corner along the same strip as Natural Grocers and Starbucks.

Yogi represents a collaboration between Dan Barbara who founded Yogi’s Home Plate Sports Bar in Lake Highlands. and Armando Ramirez, owner of Deep Sushi, the venerable sushi bar in Deep Ellum.

It will combine Barbara’s hospitality and sports bar expertise with the caliber of sushi that Ramirez has cultivated at its Deep Ellum location since it opened in 1996.

“Armando is my partner at Yogi Sushi and also a partner at Yogi’s Home Plate,” says Barbara. “We had the idea to do this differently than before. Our idea was to make it a sushi place where we kill it on the meal, but at the same time we have 10-15 TVs if you want to watch sports.”

“We take Yogi’s upscale sports bar vibe and mix it with Armando’s obvious know-how on the sushi side to create something new,” he says.

They’re adding two bars to the space on 9440 Garland Rd, including a sushi bar. # 130. A surprise: the room contains a secret terrace.

“What makes this place really unique is that it has one of the best outdoor patios in the area at the back. You would never know if you walked by,” says Barbara.

The menu is still under construction, but features sushi and other bites, plus cocktails, beer, and draft wine. They hope to be open by March.

They’re also taking the name and concept of the Yogi, which Barbara debuted as Yogi’s Home Plate in Lake Highlands in 2019, in other directions: They have a different Yogi set for Rockwall, but this one will be called Yogi’s Dugout, and they hope to open a few more yogis in town, each tailored to their neighborhood.
