Uptown Dallas bar Christies comes back to life on Greenville Avenue

A popular sports bar in Uptown Dallas that was closed in 2020 will be reopened, this time in a new neighborhood: Christie’s Sports BarThe company, which has been in business for nearly 30 years, is based on a neighborhood section of Greenville Avenue on Greenville Ave. Reopened in 2817 that was previously inhabited by a burger concept called Slater’s 50/50 & Grill.

According to a press release, its reopening date is January 22nd.

Owner Ashton Christie says it might not have reopened on its own, but the bar’s manager, Jordan Carson, really wanted to keep it alive.

“After we closed I didn’t really want to reopen, but he had such a passion for the bar and convinced me to do it again,” says Christie.

Christies has been the epitome of the Uptown sports bar for decades, a neighborhood staple of cold and cheap draft beer.

They welcomed any membership on a sports team and had enough TVs to accommodate cowboys, Mavs, and Rangers fans, as well as pool tables, pinball machines, and friendly service.

When they closed in July, it was officially due to COVID-19, less official, he says, because a landlord was unwilling to encourage them to stay in the room.

Christie is optimistic about the assets of the new location and the accommodation of the landlord, as well as his new sympatico neighbors.

“It’s a great place with two floors and a roof and a huge kitchen,” he says. “We’re also right next to Terrilli and Dodie, two other classic cars.”

They fit a lot better than Slater’s, a California burger concept that opened in 2017 at the height of the hideous bacon craze and has bacon on almost every menu item, including the burgers that were 50 percent bacon. A subsequent renaming in 2019 to a healthier gastropub did not help.

With the larger kitchen, Christies expands its game with a larger menu with 40 items, from staples like wings and mozzarella stones to new dishes like pork belly, chimichurri steak and french fries, sausage boards and churros with chocolate sauce.

The new location has:

  • three full bars

  • Double the seating of the original Christies

  • Draft cocktails

  • Wine on tap

  • more televisions

  • Games upstairs

  • an instagrammable rooftop overlooking Greenville Avenue

The opening weekend is January 22nd to 24th, with the first Sunday Funday on January 24th with the NFL playoffs. The following weekend brunch will take place with towers of sangria, cheap mimosas and much more.

They open at 4 p.m. on January 22nd, but the following hours are 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. every day.
