The Dallas Opera will stream a free performance of ‘Carmen’ next week
Opera fans will be happy. From October 9 to November 8, Dallas Opera is offering its 2018 production of Bizet’s Carmen for free online viewing. The performance was originally simulated for a live audience at Klyde Warren Park in November 2018.
Under the direction of the conductor Pierre Vallet, the mezzo-soprano Stéphanie d’Oustrac was seen in the title role, the tenor Stephen Costello as Don José, the soprano Sara Gartland as Micaëla and the bassist Alexander Vinogradov as Escamillo.
The Dallas Opera, which has been closed since mid-March, announced in June the delay of the season opening until March 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic. “In this time of pandemic, it is critical that the Dallas Opera continue to explore new ways to deliver excellence to customers in North Texas and around the world,” General Director and CEO Ian Derrer said in a press release.
