The Best Things To Do in Dallas This Weekend — Kentucky Derby Edition

In addition to some Cinco de Mayo celebrations starting this weekend, this Saturday is also the 147th round of the Kentucky Derby. Watch parties run on mint julep fuel in some local locations, but there’s still a lot to do beyond the derby.

Here are the best events to enjoy in Dallas this weekend.

Hotel Vins 1st Annual Rose Soirée (and Kentucky Derby Party)

Visit the new Hotel Vin by Grapevine this Saturday from 12 noon to 4 pm for the first annual Rosé Soirée. At The Junction, the outdoor terrace behind the hotel’s Bacchus Kitchen + Bar restaurant, you can taste over 20 different roses, snap photos in front of a floral selfie wall, enjoy a live DJ, and buy groceries from Easy Slider’s food truck. Then you can view the Kentucky Derby on a 20-foot screen and snap photos with a life-size horse display. Tickets are $ 55 per person.

Kentucky Derby Party at The Rustic

On Saturday, Uptowns The Rustic is hosting a Talk Derby To Me Kentucky Derby Fest. Brunch starts at 10am for those who want to start early and the full menu will be available at 3pm. The all-day event features live music, mint juleps and triple crown sliders, as well as a costume contest. The event is free, RSVP only.

Check out the Kentucky Derby at the JAXON Beer Garden this Saturday.

Derby Day in the AT&T Discovery District

All day this Saturday from 11 a.m., JAXON Beer Garden and The Second Floor at The Exchange are hosting a Kentucky Derby Watch Party. Guests are encouraged to wear their best Derby attire for the costume contest (with prizes). There is also live music from the Royal Dukes. Specialty drink options include $ 10 mint juleps, $ 10 French, $ 75, $ 6 glasses of prosecco, and $ 8 derby spritzes. RSVP or reserve a table here.

Turtle Creek Conservancy’s Day in the races

The Turtle Creek Conservancy fundraiser will be virtual this year and include a live broadcast of the Turtle Creek Park derby with a hat contest, “betting” on the race, and a silent and live auction. You can also enjoy the event from home with “Derby in a Box”, including a festive hat box of wine, canapes, desserts and more. Each box costs $ 150 and supplies two to four people.

The event is free with general admission.

Spring shopping stroll in Highland Park Village

It’s been a minute (understandably) since we had a shopping event in the historic Dallas destination, but this Saturday’s spring stroll should help make up for lost time. Enjoy seasonal offers from various village favorites (cotton candy at Madison, “beautifying cocktails” at Alice + Olivia, a rose pop-up bar at Veronica Beard) and newbies (when you shop, you get free cotton T-shirts at La Vie Style House or a hair tie at LoveShackFancy). Strollers can also buy pieces from Lele Sadoughi’s first store before they open later in May. Visit hpvillage.com for details on all retail offers and plan your Saturday visit to enjoy:

  • Bunches Flower Co. Truck (11 a.m. – 3 p.m.)
  • DJ Steffi Burns (12 p.m. – 3 p.m.)
  • Wild about Harry (1 p.m. – 4 p.m.)
  • Vintage VW Photobus (2 p.m. – 5 p.m.)

A sound bath every Sunday

If you’ve recently visited the West Village, Deep Ellum, or the NorthPark Center, you may have found surrealist-inspired billboards for Lord Jones – the bougie, gorgeous CBD brand that’s on the coveted shelves of The Conservatory, Grange Hall, and Stanley Korshak. The visuals represent a landmark moment for the industry (CBD-related advertising restrictions remain strict), making Dallas one of the first cities to land the brand’s campaign (Love a Exclusive).

To mark this moment, Lord Jones is hosting a virtual sound bath to help you round off your weekend. Get your best CBD chewing gum drops or bath salts and tune in to the live event with musician and producer Flying Lotus on Sunday at 7 p.m.
