Texas Military Mobilizes to Respond to Winter Storm – NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth

The Texas Department of the Military said Wednesday it was mobilizing to help Texans cope with the problems caused by the winter storm.

“At the request of Governor Greg Abbott, the men and women of the Texas Guard stand ready to serve our fellow citizens and work with our local, state and federal partners to keep Texans safe in extreme winter weather,” said a statement from the Texas Department of Defense.

Winter conditions have left millions without electricity and have been blamed for over 30 deaths.

“In addition to responding to winter weather, more than 2,000 Texas guardsmen remain mobilized to support COVID-19 operations, which include mobile vaccination teams focused on helping people in underserved communities,” it said.

Some supplies of Pfizer vaccine in the southern United States have been delayed due to dangerous weather conditions.

“I can assure you that the Texas Department of Military is ready and able to assist Governor Abbott, in collaboration with the Texas Department of Emergency Management, to assist the citizens of Texas,” said Maj. Gen. Tracy Norris, Texas adjutant general.
