Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Archewell Foundation Aids a Women’s Shelter in Dallas

From town & country

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle do their part to support the Texans suffering from winter storm Uri. Dallas-based Genesis Women’s Shelter & Support, an organization that provides services to women and families exposed to domestic violence, including emergency shelters, transitional shelters, counseling, and free legal services, closed its doors for the first time this month due to widespread power outages. “For the first time in our history in more than 35 years, our shelter had to be completely closed due to an extended power outage,” read an Instagram title shared by the organization. “In addition, the pipes in our transitional unit, Annie’s House, burst and flooded homes, offices and the local school.”

Tonight, Genesis announced that the Archewell Foundation, a nonprofit established by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, is offering assistance to meet urgent needs.

“Today we learned that news of the damage we suffered from the winter storm Uri has reached Prince Harry and Meghan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex!” reads a post from Genesis. “Through their not-for-profit Archewell Foundation, they are helping us by replacing the roof of our transitional residential complex and helping us meet our immediate needs.”

Jan Langbein, CEO of Genesis Women’s Shelter & Support, said:

“Despite the [devastating] Winter storms here in Texas, our hearts have been warmed by the support and generosity of people from all 50 states and five other countries. Today we were informed that through the charitable activities of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, the Archewell Foundation, Prince Harry and Meghan will be making a donation to help us get back on our feet. Not only will this gift meet our critical needs, but it will also put violence against women and children internationally in the spotlight and let survivors know that they are not alone. “

The story goes on

News of this donation comes just days after Queen Elizabeth confirmed Harry and Meghan would not be returning as working royals. In a statement on the news, the Sussexes said, “We can all lead a life of service. Service is universal. “
