Texas Theatre
231 W. Jefferson Blvd, Dallas, TX 75208
The Texas Theatre is a 1930s Art Deco jewel — the same theater where Lee Harvey Oswald was arrested in 1963, which is reason enough to visit. But it's also a working cinema and live event space, one of the last of its kind: independent programming, occasional live music, and a balcony that feels like you're sitting inside a jewel box. Oak Cliff's most historically significant building, and one of Dallas's most interesting rooms.
Bishop Arts District
Bishop Ave & Jefferson Blvd, Dallas, TX 75208
Oak Cliff's walkable heart — a few square blocks that somehow escaped Dallas's talent for turning everything into generic strip malls. Independent restaurants, boutiques, galleries, and bars that actually have personalities. Started as a resistance to the development happening everywhere else in the city, and it's still that. Come hungry, leave with something you didn't know you needed.

About Oak Cliff
What is Oak Cliff?
Oak Cliff is one of Dallas's most distinctive neighborhoods, spanning the west side of the Trinity River across from downtown. Once a separate city, it was annexed by Dallas in 1903 and has developed a fiercely independent identity.
The neighborhood has undergone major revitalization over the past two decades, centered on the Bishop Arts District, the historic Texas Theatre, and a growing cluster of restaurants, galleries, and craft breweries. It remains one of Dallas's most walkable and character-rich neighborhoods.
Oak Cliff & DFW's Live Music Scene
Oak Cliff sits at the intersection of two of DFW's most active music corridors. The Kessler Theater (201 W. Jefferson Blvd) — a beautifully restored 1930s movie palace — anchors the neighborhood's live performance identity, hosting everything from indie rock to singer-songwriters in a room with acoustics designed for music. Just steps away, the Texas Theatre mixes arthouse film programming with live shows that draw from Dallas's underground and alternative scene.
For audiences willing to cross the Trinity, Oak Cliff's proximity to Bishop Arts makes it a natural pre-show or post-show destination — dinner at Lucia or Emporium Pies before catching a show at the Kessler, or continuing the night at one of the neighborhood's dive bars where local musicians gather after the last set ends downtown.
