Downtown Dallas Inc. Commits $300K for West End Square Water Feature » Dallas Innovates

A virtual groundbreaking ceremony for West End Square Park on January 13 at Dallas City Hall was highlighted by the announcement of a $ 300,000 commitment from the Downtown Dallas Inc. Foundation to provide a water feature for the only centrally located green space in the west Exit the historic district.

This financial commitment comes with an earlier $ 100,000 commitment from Dallas-based architecture and design firm Corgan to build the park, which is already underway.

“The West End has long needed a green-gathering community, and we thank Parks for Downtown Dallas for making this possible with their generous matching gifts,” said Kourtny Garrett, President and CEO of Downtown Dallas Inc., at the groundbreaking ceremony a statement. “We look forward to completing the remaining priority parks, which will add nearly 14 acres of new green space to downtown Dallas and help cement the notion that downtown is a real neighborhood.”

Garrett said this is the DDI Foundation’s first grant for parks in downtown Dallas and West End Square. She said the grant was “for a water table that includes three different modes: a reflective pool for calm days, bubbler on windy days, and a cloud fog to cool off on hot days.”

The water feature will help the innovative park “welcome everyone who lives, visits, and works in downtown Dallas,” said Garrett.

The less than an acre square is the second of four priority parks recommended in the 2013 Downtown Parks Masterplan Update, which Parks for Downtown Dallas is building in collaboration with the City of Dallas. According to Parks for Downtown Dallas, the four parks will be funded by Dallas city bonds of $ 39 million and more than $ 63 million in committed private funds.

The landscape architecture firm James Corner Field Operations directed the design of West End Square, the features an outdoor work space, swings on the porch, and a U-shaped steel grille designed to act as a flexible anchor for a plug-and-play approach to technology that will be considered based on the needs and usage of the park over time can.

West End Square is bordered to the east by Market Street, to the south by Corbin Street, to the west by North Record Street and to the north by the former Spaghetti Warehouse building.

The construction of the park is estimated at 12 months. This video from Parks for Downtown Dallas gives an overview of what the park will look like.
