Dallas County tops North Texas in January home sales

Dallas County had the most home sales in the first month of 2021.

Real estate agents sold 1,733 homes in January – a 13.9% year-over-year increase, according to data from the MetroTex Association of Realtors.

Across North Texas, real estate agent sales of single-family homes increased 10% from January 2020.

Rockwall County saw the largest percentage increase in home sales last month, up 35.7% year over year.

After a record number of home purchases in the region in 2020, sales have continued briskly through 2021 as mortgage rates stay near record lows.

Average home sales prices rose more than 15% in both Dallas and Ellis.

The inventories of the houses for sale remain almost at a record low. The number of properties for sale in Collin, Denton, Ellis and Rockwall counties was down more than 60% from January 2020, according to MetroTexas Realtors.

North Texas real estate agents sold a record of nearly 120,000 single-family homes last year. And with demand for housing reducing supply, home purchases are expected to remain strong in the months ahead.

Property prices in the area are at an all-time high and are expected to rise in 2021.
