Extreme heat caused several grass fires to break out across North Texas on Thursday, and more could happen with no end in sight for the region's 100-degree days.Grand Prairie highway fireA grass fire broke out in Grand Prairie on Thursday afternoon in the median of Highway I-30 and Belt Line Road.Smoke was seen covering the highway as drivers drove past it.The Grand Prairie Fire Department responded and quickly put the fire out.Saginaw highway fireA large portion of land near Highway 287 and Warehouse Way in Saginaw was seen burned after a fire broke out.Sky 4 flew over the fire around 3 p.m. on Thursday afternoon.Payne Springs wildfireIn Payne Springs, a town in Henderson County south of Dallas, emergency crews are currently responding to a grass fire near Peach Tree Road that has spread to at least 25 to 30 acres.County Road 2507 to County Road 2930 has been closed due to the fire burning an electrical pole.Crews have requested assistance from the Texas A&M Forest Service to help

Potential tuberculosis exposure at an Irving ISD high school has Dallas County Health & Human Services recommending all returning students get tested.MacArthur High School tuberculosis exposureDallas County Health & Human Services says it is investigating possible tuberculosis exposure at MacArthur High School in Irving ISD from the 2025–26 school year.Irving ISD is recommending any returning student in 10th, 11th or 12th grade get tested for tuberculosis if they have not already been tested.Incoming freshman at MacArthur HS do not need to get tested.DCHHS says the risk to the public remains low, but recommends testing because inactive tuberculosis causes no visible symptoms.The district is offering tuberculosis testing, but say sit is not required by DCHHS or the Texas Department of State Health Services.It's not known when or where the possible tuberculosis exposure began last school year.

The Texas Education Agency released its annual A-F accountability ratings to give parents a snapshot of how their district is performing.TEA Accountability RatingsThe 2026 grades were released on Friday morning. That's up nine points from 2023.Dallas ISD also said 94% of its schools earned an A, B, or C rating. A few campuses improved significantly, including Dr. L.G.
