Following a month of hosting the 2026 FIFA World Cup, North Texas leaders are celebrating the region's execution of the event and looking toward securing future major international bids.World Cup in DallasNorth Texas served as a key location for the tournament, hosting nine matches over 31 days.FIFA announced this week that more than 630,000 fans attended the region's nine matches, while millions more visited the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex during the tournament. Ahead of the tournament, transportation and public safety were top concerns for organizers. Despite those initial concerns, transit operations ran smoothly, and local police departments in Arlington and Dallas reported only a handful of arrests with no major crime incidents.Initial projections estimated a $2 billion economic impact for the local region. Dallas Weather: Dangerous heat hits North Texas

Dangerous heat is expected for the rest of the week.Tuesday ForecastAs high pressure builds, North Texas will experience the hottest temperatures so far this season. Tuesday’s highs near 104 will feel as hot as 112.According to the National Weather Service, most of Dallas-Fort Worth is under an Extreme Heat Warning through 8 p.m. on Tuesday.Counties outside the metroplex are also under a heat advisory until 8 p.m.Those who must spend time outdoors should wear proper sun protection, drink plenty of water, take frequent breaks indoors or in the shade, and learn how to recognize the signs of heat illness.Residents are also encouraged to check on their loved ones and never leave kids or pets in vehicles. 7-Day ForecastThe heat advisories and heat warnings will be in place for the foreseeable future.As of now, the only rain chances will be near the Red River early Saturday thanks to weakening storms in Oklahoma.There’s no other relief in sight.Symptoms of Heat-Related IllnessTemperatures th

Gas leak forces evacuations at Uptown Dallas apartment complex

Dallas Fire-Rescue has given the all clear after responding to a gas leak at an Uptown apartment complex.Uptown gas leakOn July 22, around 1:20 p.m., Dallas Fire-Rescue units were dispatched to a gas leak call near the MAA Meridian Apartments in Uptown in the 2400 block of Allen Street.Officials say a construction company working near the location struck a 6-inch commercial gas line.DFR dispatched multiple units, including the HazMat team, to address the situation. Atmos Energy technicians are on location addressing the leak.Though no gas readings were found inside MAA Meridian Apartments, the building was evacuated out of an abundance of caution.The leak was reported as fixed between 5 p.m. and 5:30 p.m., and residents were allowed back into their apartments.
