Downtown Arlington kicked off the Independence Day celebration with a parade on Saturday morning.This year marks a double milestone. The city of Arlington is celebrating its 150th anniversary, and America is celebrating its 250th birthday.The Saturday morning parade had a route winding through the University of Texas at Arlington campus and Downtown Dallas.It featured more than 100 entries, including all the marching bands from the city’s high schools, car clubs, and colorful floats carrying members of local groups and businesses.About 75,000 people were expected to attend, but organizers said the crowd this year could be larger because of Friday’s World Cup match at Dallas Stadium between Egypt and Australia.There may be World Cup fans from out of town who decide to experience the morning parade, bringing an added international flavor to the festivities.This is the 62nd year for the Arlington Independence Day parade.From its humble beginnings as a bike parade in Randoll Mill Park in 1

The largest glass of beer ever has been poured by your Texas Rangers in celebration of America's 250th birthday.World's largest beer glassPrior to their July 4 game against the Detroit Tigers, the Texas Rangers set a Guinness World Record for the largest glass of beer ever poured.Starting at 12 p.m. and finishing around 1:45 p.m., 600 gallons of Budweiser were poured into the huge beer stein, which was constructed outside the north entrance to Globe Life Field in Arlington.A Guinness World Records representative confirmed the record, which surpassed a 2014 record of a 550 gallon beer glass poured by beer fans in the United Kingdom.The record was set in conjunction with America's 250th anniversary celebrations. $1.50 Budweiser beers were sold following the record-setting pour in honor of Anheuser-Busch's 150th anniversary.Jim Cochrane, Chief Business Officer for the Texas Rangers, said Anheuser-Busch challenged them to come up with an idea big enough for the company's 150th anniversary.
