Arlington Martin girls crack top 5, creating a Dallas-area logjam in 6A

This week’s ranking of the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches has been published and can be viewed in full here. All overall records are made via the TABC.

Here are some takeaways we saw in this week’s leaderboard:

Girls ranking

UIL

  • Arlington Martin (16-3) climbed from 6th to 5th this week and caused a logjam in the Dallas area in the 6A classification. DeSoto (18-1), Duncanville (21-2) and South Grand Prairie (15-2) remain the top three teams in the region by sticking to numbers 2-4.
  • Allen (24-3) moved from # 10 to # 9 in Figure 6A, while Denton Guyer (16-5) remains at # 14.
  • Lincoln (8-6) reached the 5A rankings in 24th after beating Pinkston, according to MaxPreps. Lincoln is unbeaten in the district game and has not lost a game since losing to Red Oak on December 19.

Private schools

  • Bishop Lynch (15-3) remains the top private school in 6A / SPC in 3rd place overall, followed by Argyle Liberty Christian (15-3) in 4th place.
  • Fort Worth Southwest Christian and Dallas Christian continue their reigns as the top two teams in 5A. FW Southwest Christian hasn’t lost a game in nearly two months – the team’s only loss came on December 1st to Argyle Liberty Christian. Dallas Christian has now made a 2-0 start in the district game, according to MaxPreps.

Boys ranking

UIL

  • Waxahachie (14-2), Lancaster (18-5) and Faith Family (16-5) continue to dominate as the No. 1 teams in the 6A-4A classifications.
  • Outside the top 10, several area teams climbed the 6A ladder – North Crowley (19-1) Mansfield and Coppell each advanced, while Flower Mound Marcus remained number 24 overall.
  • Mansfield Timberview and Mansfield Summit keep their # 7-8 this week. Summit came out on top with a narrow 64-62 win over Timberview nearly three weeks ago, and the Jaguars are hoping to end the regular season streak if they host Timberview on Friday.

Private schools

  • There was no movement in the top 5 for 6A / SPC. However, Arlington Oakridge jumped from 9th to 7th, while Plano Prestonwood Christian cracked the top 10.
  • Arlington Grace Prep (16-1) continues to sit comfortably in No. 1 on the 4A rankings. Grace Prep is one of two top 10 teams to have only lost one loss this season.
